Eclipse

Excerpt from “Musings of A (Not) Madman”

1PM, but the skies I look at say otherwise
As the sun and moon align in front of our eyes
I see a reflection of what runs through my mental
There are these memories that feel like a rental
Contrary to me now, me then smiled more
See me then, felt like he could take on any war
But me now wants to turn for the nearest door
Drifting haphazardly through reality and my core
They warn you these eclipses will kill your vision
But some still choose to make the dumb decision
To look with their bare eyes and feel their demise
But for the eclipses I speak of something else dies
Instead, the heart takes a beating in this instance
Time has passed, yet I don’t feel the distance
It’s like I can touch the past, it feels so close
It’s indescribable the impact of such a small dose
Oh here we go, it’s my memory on the fritz again
Guess I’ll be shuffling out as another gray citizen
I feel my soul clawing around, and reaching out
But the eclipse has clouded my sight with doubt
Maybe it’s me, but I think I’m moving in place
No matter whichever point I choose in space
My body moves up, yet my spirit feels grounded
Accolades astounding, but I still feel bounded
I found love, seriously, it wasn’t lust or infatuation
I will proclaim it again, I found love, zero hesitation
I realized something greater was starting to bloom
It’s what pulled John and Savannah to the moon
What I speak of isn’t dressed up in decadence
Some might be able to smell Heaven’s scents
This means you know from whom it was sent
Only she can realize how much she has meant
To me, despite the storms and the turbulence
I wouldn’t trade it for any experience, no offense
Post devastation I’m spitting suffering succotash
Because no matter what I try Tweety will dash
Like the eclipse, the time we spent was too short
But I’ll tell you what I told grandma, “yes, of course”
